february 2: groundhog day (dia de la marmota)

For reasons lost in the mists of time, the groundhog (often referred to by its Latin name, Marmota, in Leisure parlance) has long been regarded as a totem animal by members of the Agency. Once reason for this is surely the cuddly mammal's hibernation, which typically begins in October and lasts until at least February.

On the second of this month, join our four-legged brother in shaking off the winter slumber and poking your nose out of your burrow to ascertain whether it's safe to re-emerge. Dia de la Marmota is a day to regain consciousness, evaluate the climate, and prepare oneself for springtime hijinks. Remember, however, the lesson of the Marmota: there is no shame in turning back and napping for a few more weeks, if the atmosphere remains inclement.
